 Avon
Lake, with a population of just over 18,000, is located between
Cleveland and Lorain, about 18 miles west of Cleveland. Avon Lake
is part of the Lorain - Elyria metropolitan area. Its geographical
limits are formed by Lake Erie to the north, the Norfolk Southern
Corporation Railroad tracks to the south, the city of Bay Village to the
east and the city of Sheffield Lake to the west.
The city stretches for five miles along Lake Erie
forming a northward arch into the lake. The Ford Motor Company's
Ohio Assembly Plant began operations in 1974 and covers 230 acres
employing over 3,000 individuals. Avon Lake is also home to the
first Fortune 500 company in Lorain County, PolyOne, an international
leader in the chemical industry.
Real estate taxes are relatively low in Avon Lake.
